BSS MUSIC  — IMPORTANT DATES & PERFORMANCES

MARCH:

The Nanaimo International Jazz Festival that starts today (and goes until March 20th). You can see all of the information below, and you can access the performances for free from this link:

https://nanaimojazzfest.ca/

The performances will be uploaded to the website over the next few weeks, and the first performance is already available to view! You can also become a member of the jazz festival and donate money to support the festival and the musicians. This is a great event that happens in Nanaimo each year (usually in September). It mostly takes place outdoors with a number of larger concerts at the Port Theatre.

Please consider watching some of the performances with your children. Its always a great idea to support local musicians and live music!!!   🙂

Virtual Jazz Festival Off and Running

We’re excited to announce that on Monday, March 1 our 2021 Virtual Nanaimo International Jazz Festival officially kicks off with a performance from the Anderson Jazz Trio.

You’ll be able to link to all of this year’s great performances from our website www.nanaimojazzfest.ca our Facebook page @NanaimoJazzFestival and our Instagram page @nanaimojazzfestival@channel .

This weeks festival ‘onlineup’ includes the Doug Anderson trio on Monday. March 1.  The trio features the guitar stylings of Doug Anderson on guitar, joined by the dynamic rhythm section of Aaron Amar on drums and John Hyde on bass.

On Wednesday, March 3 we get funky with the Marty Steele Band. Band leader Marty Steele is renowned for his explosive bass line driven, keyboard style. He’s joined by accomplished Afro-Canadian singer and actor Nicole Utulinde on vocals and Julian Award nominated saxophonist Ben Henriques.

We wrap up our first week on Friday, March 5 with the Lucas Smart Quartet.

Local tenor saxophonist Lucas Smart is joined by jazz regulars Nico Rhodes on piano, Kosma Busheikin on bass and James McRae on drums for a musical exploration of jazz standards and originals.

We’ll keep you posted as the Festival unfolds.
